“Art Imitates Life” The Art’otel Amsterdam

Always on the lookout for the ‘unusal’ or things that can be an inspiration in the world of interior styling,  I found such a place right here in Amsterdam.Located directly across from Central Station, the art’otel amsterdam  is unique in the way it presents itself.  A four star wonder offering five star service is just one the many qualities provided.  Your check-in experience starts out very relaxed.  You are taken to the lounge and offered a drink while the staff inserts your details into an I-pad.   Love it!  There are a total of 107 rooms available and, a master suite.  The standard room is 27 sq meters and yet, you feel like the room is far larger than it is.  The interior styling can only be described as ‘relaxed art’.  Using varied shades of grey mixed with greens, orange and naturals offers a blend of beauty and style.   For your pleasure there is an art lounge, gallery, library, beauty spa, fitness centre and a swimming pool.  Upon seeing all of this I immediately wanted to make a reservation!
Breakfast, free internet and wi-fi are all part of the services that come with your room automatically.  Now we get to the art.  The work of Atelier Van Lieshout is showcased throughout and one should really have a look at this work.  Based on the cycle of life, the art pieces do make you take a look and give cause to think.  Within the hotel is a restaurant/bar called 5&33.   Again, amazing interior styling and design function.  There is a curtain of 12 meters, which connects the upper and lower ground floor.  It is an interactive piece that shows video art.  A lot of time and thought was put into the design of this hotel, which I truly appreciated from an interior stylist perspective.   What I found really great is that the bar/restaurant has another entrance allowing not just guests to take advantage of the space.  Anyone looking for that ‘special’ place to meet for a drink, coffee or dinner can experience the lounge and art gallery as well.
We highly recommend this to anyone looking for a place to dine or simply wanting to have a little ‘get-away-time’ to spoil yourself in the city.  Art’otel gives it all to you and does so effortlessly.
At’otel is owned by PPHE Hotel Group also manages the Park Plaza hotels. The group has 38 hotels with approximately 8,200 rooms. Each hotel is a homage to a contemporary artist and since its first opening in Berlin in 1990 the collection has expanded to six stunning hotels.

“Coming from San Francisco, I moved to Amsterdam as part of following my passion to experience life in another country. Amsterdam had an appeal that I absolutely loved. That same passion lead me into interior styling. Being able to create a look for a space is the best feeling. It is a challenge at times finding exactly what works and what doesn’t, but that is all part of the journey. Being able to bring to reality a look that is special and unique is the creative process in motion. It’s what I love doing.”
